Matsushita Corp., better known for its brand Panasonic has claimed that it has successfully removed lead from its plasma display panels and has made them eco-friendly.

Lead was used in the form of Lead-oxide glass which was widely used in the plasma display panel to adjust the softening points of several different materials.

Matsushita has teamed up with Hitachi and Pioneer to make the plasma panels more eco-friendly.

Matsushita has moved from the Lead Oxide material to a led-free material for the dielectric layer, electrodes and other components. They will be using materials like Bismuth as it is comparable to lead oxide glass.

Matsushita spokesman commented that

“Matsushita has completed the elimination of lead from print-circuit boards and in-house components,”

Matsushita will market the eco-friendly panels in European market and other regions and will continue to remove lead from other panel components as well.
