Sharp is making a comeback in the LCD TV market and with a vengeance. Last year it lost some ground to rivals because it did not upgrade to next generations manufacturing technology while the others did.
The company has started making TVs out of glass from its 8th generation Kameyama plant. Sources say that out of 2.16 meters by 2.46 meters of a glass sheet six LCDs can be made where as earlier the ratio was only two to three 52-inch panels out of smaller glass sheets being used earlier.
Earlier at CEATEC Sharp exhibited a 64-inch LCD monitor that provides a resolution that is four times normal HD (high definition).
This prototype supports 4096×2160 resolution, which is double the normal HD resolution.
What will be interesting to see in coming month’s holiday season prices by Sharp.
