Matsushita to develop Unleaded Plasma displays

Matsushita Corp., better known for its brand Panasonic has claimed that it has successfully removed lead from its plasma display panels and has made them eco-friendly. Lead was used in the form of Lead-oxide glass which was widely used in the plasma display panel to adjust the softening points of several different materials. Matsushita has teamed up with Hitachi and Pioneer to make the plasma panels more eco-friendly. Matsushita has moved from the Lead Oxide material to a led-free material for the dielectric layer, electrodes and other components. They will be using materials like Bismuth as it is comparable to lead oxide glass. Matsushita spokesman commented that “Matsushita has completed the elimination of lead from print-circuit boards and in-house components,” Matsushita will market the eco-friendly panels in European market and other regions and will continue to remove lead from other panel components as well.

37LD8600: A Low-budget HD-ReadyTV from Hitachi

The Hitachi 37LD8600 is £900 giant screen HD budget TV. With a whole range of passable features. In comparison to Bush and Goodmans the TV looks robust and has a good feel to it. As you will find after reading this story that in today’s world if you want the best you are required to pay for it. The more you pay better are the features and the quality. First thing that will strike you is that this TV has just one HDMI input hardly acceptable in a world where we are fast moving to Blu-ray and HD-DVD. But you can find an additional HDMI plug for a cost of £100. There is no digital tuner in the TV and the analogue Tuner is a bit to harsh on pictures. Analogue tuner produces lack-luster colors, murky smeared movements and is unusually dark in dark scenes (To view what’s happening you have to increase brightness to unusual levels). Only two Scarts slot and no CI slots itself indicate the absence of Digital Tuners. The HD ready status gives TV compatibility to 720 p and 1080i HD formats with a high pixel count of 1366×768. But if you feed it with high definition signal you will see a mark difference in picture quality and colors which again stresses the need of a digital tuner in this TV. Why would you like to buy this TV will depend on the requirements that you are looking for if you are getting your TV feed from Sky Digital and Digital cable Broadcasters then you might consider it as TV gives a pretty decent performance but if you will end up watching whole of the content on Analogue tuner then my friend this is not what you are looking for.

Will there be players to play Blu-ray as well as HD DVD

Will there be players and PCs, in future, which will play both Blu-ray and HD DVD discs, is one of the hot considerations among different consumers. Chipmakers, including Broadcom, NEC and STMicroelectronics are looking forward to put such components that will let consumer electronics makers to produce functional products. If you consider a story published in EE Times, Machines capable of playing both Blu-ray and HD-DVD disks will emerge next year to short-circuit the format war in next-generation DVD. Christos Lagomichos, general manager of the Home Entertainment Group, is of the view, A significant volume of high-definition-capable optical-disk players in 2008 will be universal players. It was just an overview, but if we go to the core, we find that the main obstacle is the politics of different creators or producers. They don’t want to loose the handsome royalties that they earn if their set-up emerges as a top contender. Maybe this is one of the reason that forced LG and Pioneer gave up the idea of coming out with a dual-format player in the relatively near future? And this format war is one of the major grounds that have strained buyers to keep distance from them. Customers couldn’t do much about thus, but wait to stop the ongoing scuffle.
