Why just two when we can have three? That’s the Toshiba’s new idea. Toshiba is working on a three-layer disc that supports both the HD DVD and DVD disc formats. The new three-layer disc will be able to play on both the conventional as well as the high definition DVD players.

What we can expect is a single-layer 4.7GB DVD with a dual layer 30GB HD DVD or a dual-layer 8.5GB DVD and a single-layer 15GB HD DVD packed together on one disc.

The idea is great as you most probably don’t have to scrap your conventional DVD player. Let’s sit back a while after Toshiba makes an official announcement for the three-layer disc.
